If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend with your kids, head outside and have a backyard scavenger hunt. I ran across this activity idea for a Backyard Scavenger Hunt on the National Wildlife Federation’s website The Green Hour. You can print out this list of nature items and organize a simple hunt with your family or neighbors in your yard. I like the list of items a lot because most of them are simple enough for younger kids, but there are also some such as signs of a mammal or two types of seeds that will make this activity challenging for older kids also. To make the hunt easier, give each team a clipboard to write on and a small bag to collect their items.
If you haven’t seen the Green Hour website, be sure to check it out. You can find a lot of educational and fun things to do outside on this site. The Nature Find link is especially helpful in finding nearby parks or natural areas to take your kids.
Thanks for this post!! It is finally nice enough to get outside here and my hubby is gone, so the girls and I are REALLY looking for stuff to do.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the scavenger hunt. I totally know the feeling of looking for things to do when the hubby is gone. We are having a picnic with some friends at the park tommorrow and I think we're going to do this scavenger hunt with the kids.
